The common name is Harbour Seal, or Common Seal. The scientific name is Phoca Vitulina.
Usually found in the North Atlantic or North Pacific oceans. 5% of the world population can be found in UK waters.
Male Harbour Seals live for 20 to 25 years. The female lives longer, some 30 to 35 years.
Adult Harbour Seals can grow up to 1.85 meters (6.1 feet) and weigh 132 kilograms (290 pounds).
Harbour Seals stick to familiar resting spots, or haul out sites. These will be near regular foraging areas where they can be safe from adverse weather and predators.
Harbour Seal pups are able to swim and dive within hours of birth.
